Ingredients

Step 1:

  • 1 kg chicken with bone
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 8–10 garlic cloves
  • 4 tomatoes (halved)

Step 2:

  • 1½ tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp crushed green chilies
  • ½ cup cooking oil

Step 3:

  • ½ cup yogurt
  • 1 tbsp cream
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

Garnish:

  • Julienne ginger
  • Green chilies (sliced)
  • Lemon slices

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Chicken

  1. In a pot, add chicken, red chili powder, salt, turmeric powder, and garlic cloves. Mix well.
  2. Place halved tomatoes (cut side down) on top of the chicken.
  3. Cover the pot with a lid and cook on medium heat (6.5 on an induction hob) for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the lid, peel off the tomato skins, mash the tomatoes, and mix them with the chicken.

Step 2: Adding Spices

  1. Increase heat slightly (about 7 on induction).
  2. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, ginger paste, crushed green chilies, and oil to the pot.
  3. Sauté the chicken, stirring continuously for 4–5 minutes.

Step 3: Final Touches

  1. Reduce heat to medium (about 6). Add yogurt and cream.
  2. Cook until the water evaporates.
  3. Sprinkle garam masala and ground black pepper. Mix and simmer for 10 minutes.

Garnish and Serve

  • Decorate with julienne ginger, green chilies, and lemon slices.
  • Serve hot with naan or rice.
